Nashik is the place where the rich spirituality of the Hindu faith reaches a pinnacle. Known by its colloquial name Nasik, this city of northern Maharashtra, India boasts profound historical and cultural value. It is an important destination visited by tourists and pilgrims alike every 12 years during the Kumbh Mela which is one of India’s most famous pilgrimage festivals. Nashik is located close to the pilgrim towns of Trimbakeshwar and Shirdi, respectively famous for Lord Shiva and Saint Shri Sai Baba.

The name of that city of Nashik is said to have its ancient roots in the Ramayana. The great epic narrates that Lord Rama is said to have spent quite an amount of time in exile in Nashik area. Besides, there is also the famous tale of Laxman cutting off the nose of Shurpanakha, the sister of the demon king Ravana, at this very spot which is said to have seen the growth of these significant events in history hence called “Nasik”. The Maharashtra government selected Nashik-Nasik as the State Growth Center because of its strategic and religious importance.
